Assembly polls: Congress-DMK exchange constituencies list

Tuesday, March 15, 2011, 16:24 [IST]Print This PageTamil Nadu mapChennai, Mar 15: The Congress and DMK formally exchanged the list of the constituencies they would contest for the Apr 13 Tamil Nadu assembly polls. According to the list, Congress will contest in 63 constituencies, including five seats in Chennai.

After protracted negotiations and hard bargaining, Congress managed to get 63 seats against the 48 seats in 2006. Under the pact, DMK will contest 121 seats, PMK 30, Viduthlalai Chiruthaigal Katchi 10, Kongu Nadu Munnetra Kazhagam 7, IUML two and Moovender Munetra Kazhagam one, the last two seeking election on the DMK symbol.

The list was exchanged at the Anna Arivalayam by TNCC president KV Thangkabalu and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. Sources in Chennai reported that the list of Congress candidates include Dr ESS Raman, Amarnath, Dr Chellakumar, Victory Mohan, Gayathri Devi and Karate Thiyagarajan.
